Oh look! I'm bouncing back a little! Whew. I had my rest and cry, then got things ready, then rested some more, then was super super cheered by Moomin letting me give him an algebra lesson. He was totally wowed by my graphing of x + y = 5, which made me feel extremely wise and useful. I thought he would like the way it all fits together - just the sort of thing he likes, neat and orderly and world-in-a-box-ish. The way it works for negative numbers too kind of blew his mind.
Then I made dinner with fair competence and it was indeed fancy and yet not too hard. I did baked potatoes in foil ahead of time, got asparagus ready to cook hours before hand, and cut up a pepper and some huge mushrooms and wrapped up some bread in foil. then also steak with bacon wrapped around it (and tuna with peppercorns for me.) Accidentally overcooked the tuna but otherwise it was fancy. And I realized that cake-baking was way too ambitious so I just bought a fancy one during my shopping trip. I think Rook liked it. That made me feel better too because I was partly flipping out that he would have a rotten birthday with me crying and no dinner and not really any presents either. His present was really one I got for Moomin and forgot to give him, but it is a nice present to get something your kid wants (it was Avatar season 2.) We watched some Avatar, of Kitara fighting the water bender teacher dude, and then the Fire Nation attacking the northern water tribe city. Rook fixed a bit of the table by sawing it off in a satisfying attack and also resolved to buy a new table for his birthday. Now, we're off to eat cake!
