Definitely a nasty cold. I'm reading "Iron Coffins: A Personal Account of the German U-Boat Battles of World War II" written by a German uboat commenter. Now I really want to watch a submarine movie!

I am absolutely and totally perversely hooked on submarines. I've not only seen most submarine movies, as far as I know, but have also shamefacedly watched the TV series from the 90s, Sharks of Steel, with a roommate whose brother is a Chief Petty Officer on a US submarine. The book sounds great.

We went to the ship museum in Stockholm where you can go over old warships. The smaller submarine had an entrance hatch so tiny that you got claustrophobia just looking at it from the outside and we couldn't bring ourselves to go in.I was thinking recently about the kind of person who is perfectly fine about living in one of those .. no imagination .. missing a crucial part of their brain .. or just incredibly brave?

Das Boot is quite a good movie.. and accurately filmed. HIGHLY recommend it.
They filmed the movie sequentially, and often in a real U-boat. So the beards, the grit, tension are pretty real.
Oh yea.. in the US people got confused by the German name, so you might have to look for The Boat/Das Boat/Das Boot.
