Has anyone told, in print, that story about Gabriela Mistral on the ship from (mexico? central america?) where she came with her girlfriend ("secretary" ) as travelling companion and then there was a super melodramatic breakup in which Mistral left to get on the cruise ship home with her new girlfriend / secretary and the ex came to the ship dressed in a wedding dress and threw a huge scene? I believe there was also drunkenness. More than one person has told me this whole thing. But officially she is still not a lesbian, or something. According to Scholars. (Oh whatever...) So we have to call her, or her poetry, "of interest to lesbians".
I know, I know... it's impossible even to talk about one's great-great-aunt's illegitimate child... no one will ever tell the real dirt even generations down the line. Dammit.
