women are animals

This Readers' Digest article from 1966 really shows the ways that patriarchal discourse makes women more animal than human.

Human = man. Women... are something else, defined by body and instinct. Maybe not *quite* animals, but awfully close. These sorts of guides and manuals (I'm obsessed with them...) reveal a lot of ugly things about the ways that gender works to dehumanize women.
