Everyone was super happy that he instantly peed out the saline solution they flushed in before they took out the catheter. and because he held it till getting to the bathroom that means good bladder control. but since then, no pee. They kind of stupidly disconnected him from the IV right away, which I questioned but was willing to accept...
I have had to persuade him to take every nibble of popsicle or sip of water since then, and it's not working. Plus, major diarrhea, which means I have to walk him to the bathroom (with crying and agony from intestinal cramps) every ... at least every 20 min to half an hour. Hot packs... ice packs.... distraction with books... crying... "Would you like to go to the library... or the playroom.. or watch a video... or sleep?" "I think I would like to try to sleep, please." Then he couldn't, because of the diarrhea.
After a bit of this, I put out word and paged the doctor. IV is now back on. He's finally sleeping! Whew!
Naptime for me!
