I'm reading "The Years of Rice and Salt" and waiting desperately for it to all be explained by Bug Eyed Monsters, aliens, science... then it would become an unholy combination of The Mists of Avalon and Riverworld... So far I'm engaged but am a bit "wtf" and as I said, hoping against hope that the gods are bug-eyed aliens or energy-beings.
The "inventing everything" chapter cracked me up as it reminded me of the parody I never wrote of Ayla in the Valley of the Horses thinking of nuclear fission and calculus & etc. Really should write that chapter.
Oh, man. That inventing everything always drove me bonkers. I justified it by telling myself that she got different stimulus than a lot of the other people in that time, and also other people were coming up with the same stuff in different places on the continent. Yeah. I haven't actually been able to read the latest one. I LOVED them in high school, but now? Ehhhh...except for "certain" scenes. ;)
Glad everyone is home and getting better. :)

I remember reading all the Ayla books at 11-13 and thinking that Ayla was like a prehistoric Martha Stewart. Complete with Martha's ability to grate my last nerve.
