I'm too amped up to sleep yet. It's 1:30am! Nooooo! My circadian rhythms demand that I blog for another hour and read at least as long.
Today I had a funny moment while reading some chick who was quoting Kristeva, and I don't pretend to grok Kristeva in her fullness and especially not in her annoying lacan-blowing fullness, but hey, some good ideas in there. And K. was going on about Plato's ideal of beauty (Beauty) (which I find, well, beautiful, but annoying and always suspect) then mutating into Plotinus's idea of interiority so that the modernismo aesthetic was to interiorize the process of aestheticization. Yay! Exactly! This made all too much sense to me on one level, but on another I was having a moment of cognitive dissonance and thinking "Plotinus!!???!!!WTF??!!!" and then a few minutes and strange imaginings later, realized I had mixed up Plotinus and Plautus. This was hysterically funny...
Plautus! hahahahahah! As if! Kristeva! on and on about Plautus! not bloody likely! Plautus, that wise muser upon the Good, and the One, and the lake of inward poetry or what the fuck ever... I was trying to imagine Plautus writing all this deep stuff about interiority and just couldn't get over that hump. Because I had the wrong guy...
Maybe you had to be there.
I am in the small, sad, select group who understand why that is hilarious.
Plautus. Snrk.
