Jeremy of jeremyiglehart.com tried to contact the Red Cross, cnn, etc. and couldn't get anywhere...
So he made a web site for his project, Kiosks for Katrina, last friday, and raised half a million bucks in equipment and by paypal and local companies, enough to fly down here to the Astrodome. He works for Siemens Medical solutions.
How awesome is that! I think there are many stories like his... he has given and committed all the resources he has and he's only 20 and could not even rent a car to get here.
Tech For All are the dudes in Houston who are runnig all this.
Can i just say, here, that i had to meet with the red cross people upstairs and they have such a different perspective. They are very worried about hipaa and confidentiality, and identity theft. i had a person tell me in this meeting, we can't put it out there on the internet if a person is here in the dome. Just the fact that they are present here in the shelter complex is "confidential information". I had a hissy (internally). I finally told them flat out: my people are about putting information OUT. So, don't send us ANY info that you don't want out there because we want these families to find each other as fast as possible. Fine I just violated some confidentiality. Fuckin' sue me.
You are amazing, Badger! I am stunned at what I've read here.
