Jo

Perhaps a boxed set of Narnia books?

Ide Cyan

James Tiptree, Jr.'s Tales of the Quintana Roo. Then you can hook her on feminist SF.

Of course I asked. Here were the replies...

- necklace with name in cursive
- this one particular cookbook
- a pedicure
- VINTAGE ac/dddc, Ozzzy, blaack sabbbath, or d4k side of the moon tshirts
- p0et's market (!)

Now I feel like i know her a tiny bit better just from the wishlist. I haven't been a very good godlessmother... I was at least adequate with the xmas and birthday cards for like, the first 12 years... and then drifted away because of my conflicts with her mom.

Debbie

Well, Poet's Market is quite a clue. I might give her that plus a book of poetry that I really like and think is somewhere between mainstream and subversive. (Hmm. What would that be?) Anime goes over well also.

badgerbag

Oh! good thought! Perhaps bartletts and "the book of women poets from antiquity to now." And "Rumble girls".

Jo

A boxed set of Patti Smith CDs?

badgerbag

Oh THAT'll make me popular with the xtians. hahaha!

e

how 'bout a really nice gold bracelet?

More xtian-bating: The Golden Compass!

Or, more sedately, the Norton Anthology of Poetry?

Nice to have something substantial like that. My favorite cousin gave me a Riverside Shakespeare for my Bat Mitzvah and I have it still.

Ide Cyan

Oooh.... "Souls", by Joanna Russ. It's about an abbess! Perfect cover! Unless her grandparents disapprove of abbesses.

Ms. Jane

Cynthia Heimel's Sex Tips for Girls, if only for the cover.

I think that's even worse than the Patti Smith CD set! But the set of super nice reference books & poety things, that's a great idea. Maybe I'll go to a used bookstore and look for really groovy old reference books/norton anthology type of stuff in good condition.

Jo

Ide, I read that as "abscesses." YUCK!
