Moomin turned in his reading list at the library and got prizes for finishing their summer Super Readers program. I was so proud! He was shy, but then talked the ear off the librarian about how he loves Ricky Ricotttta and also Mrs. P1ggle-Wiggle.
Then he picked out some tintin books and the super-junior-goof-ass-Hobbit-from-the-movie, and... get this... the comic-book version of Moby Dick. You can picture me stunned with happiness, and something very like wild flaming supernova hope, as he chose it. Now, if he'll read it! I'll freak with joy! Oh, my nerdly sprog... Why I should feel it, I can't explain, and it's probably some sort of Parenting Mistake, but I don't care.
I feel it too when I am trying to talk to him, and he's lost in his book and doesn't hear me. A tear of gratitude springs to my eye that he is so intent and fanciful & also that he loves something so much.
Totally unrelated comment, but can't find your email. If you want to play on tomorrow (Tuesday)'s call, email me for the phone number! nancyw at fullcirc dot com!

Comic...of Moby Dick? Does it at least retain the homoerptic undertones?
Seriously, that's cool. Franny just finished hers, and she always picks the worst books. But I got to let her choose, you know?
