How did Ep do?

elswhere

People would stick their kids in for a couple weeks and then pull them out in September? For what, the free childcare? Man, that strikes me as incredibly disruptive for everyone, not least the pulled-out kids.

badgerbag

She did fine! You know - mostly was in awe of the time & energy people are spending... i can't believe it. i KNOW the teachers spend huge amts of their own money on stuff for the kids & for the classroom. I sure wish they didn't have to. Because i feel like we have to...

Elsewhere - The schools in our district are on 2 different schedules. And you are guaranteed a spot in your closest school, but you can get in the lottery for 3 others. So if your third choice is a school that starts august 4th adn your 1st choice starts august 25th, you're hosed, since the district can't figure out who's going where... I don't really get it... And, like, today at Moomin's school, I think 6 or 7 new kids showed up - their parents just hadn't realized when school started or where to go, maybe? You have to find out through gossip and osmosis. It's not like the 3 or 4 local newspapers would cover anything so trivial as what the fuck is up with the local school system.

Hip Liz

It's shocking how underfunded the schools are. I can't remember all the things I've done to raise money for stuff we took for granted a generation ago. But I don't understand the rancor aimed at the Gov. He wants to raise tenure requirements from two years to five. Until I heard that, I would have assumed it was ten or twenty. Anyway, the unions hate him, as they should, for he threatens their power, as he should. Now if only the power politics could go away and we could just heavily fund actual education. Meanwhile, we were PTA treasurer one year. What a nightmare of half-competent self-important blowhards that is. But they mean well generally -- and to volunteer at school is something every parent should do lots.

Liz

Not hip liz here, liz liz.

for another project, I collected data on how much the various "support the schools" foundations raise.

"The nonprofit Menlo Park-Atherton Education Foundation contributed nearly $1.3 million to the district in 2003" There are about 2,100 kids in the district, so they're raising about $600/kid.

And there's Downtown College Prep: "DCP privately fundraises $1,300,000 annually to support its operating expenses.”
How much does DCP spend per student/ per year? $10,255. Reimbursement from the state is only $6,694/student/year."

Armpit hair is so very sexy, though. John gets all sad if I shave mine. But the legs; I like a smooth leg.

Hey! Personal things about me nobody ever wanted to know! Uninhibited late-night commenting! whoo-hoo!

badgerbag

Oh yes Jenijen, but are you "groomed" as well? Share it all!

jenijen

Heh. Okay, I'll share. I try, but I get terrible razor burn, ingrown hairs and general uncomfortableness. So, not so very groomed. Any tips for me??
