That was so much fun. I think i started crying when T.'s voice was cracking and he was saying about honoring Minnie and meanwhile a gigantic butterfly with yellow wings was flitting over his head and rose petals blowing all around us in the sunlight and gentle breeze. How he was gazing at her! Yay! She was extremely princessy in her floaty dress - glowy and sort of carried away by everything. (Some people should always have tiaras and veils floating back - she is one of them.) Then again when they read the poem by haf1z (translator mind wondering whose translation?) at the line about the beaut1ful animals so that I was sort of giggling at the thought of V'ger and Ch1na as the beau1iful animals but - really- the whole poem. how cool. I liked the flowers and all the little fat bird things in the middles. Our dad, as we were all packing up afterwards, red-faced and jolly like an admiral after one of those dinners in Hornbl0wer, throwing a little bird at me and joking about flipping me the bird. My mom being sort of cute though I didn't hang with her much somehow and would come across her hunched over having a bad-girl cigarette at odd moments. The after-party catty dissection might not be all that bad. Instead of being immediately appalled by all and sundry, instead, Minnie and I suddenly looked like quite normal California grownups of our generation amidst the lovely buffer of our friends and their half-ironic outfits or tattoos or like, the Pilot's cute mohawk and casual nursing-of-baby. So it was wild how our parents just calmed way down on some major level. Because the reason to be scared of your children being freaks is fearing that they will be lonely outcasts. right?
Moomin dancing his graceful dances - long performances. Chefily got him vogueing. Later, inside, he danced with amazing feeling and connectedness to the music - listening, then doing different stuff to each song - I'm serious, he was dancing with emotional understanding of the music, so expressively! and a reasonable amount of flair and grace, with hip-hop looking stuff, the vogueing, swirly motions, tap moves, ballet, and karate all mixed together. I was impressed. I think he was inspired by the natty suit and new dress shoes and the stage-like settings of the large room with oriental rug...
The food was good. Cake (Chefily's) incredibly good - sour cream cinnamon with chocolate frosting, the perfect not-too-sweet-ness.
Could it have been any more idyllic? Even our hideous aunt getting completely trashed and sobbing on the shoulders of total strangers just made it more perfect.
Congratulations and best wishes to Minnie. Please -photographs.
