When I was first getting started as a writer I looked into a school with a well-known MFA program. I was torn. I ended up calling the director of the program to chat him up about it. The conversation went something like this:

HIM: "So, you're really serious about writing?"
ME: "Yeah."
HIM: "Well, unless sitting around in rooms filled with other unpublished writers who say warm fuzzy things about your shit writing appeals to you, I think you're better off eating rejection slips."

To this man, if you're reading. Thank you. I'd sooner set my dick on fire.

I'm glad there's other people who see it that way. I'm so regretting taking the tr4nslation class from the CW dept. and trying to make it into a real class by doing double assignments and extra writing. It's the worst class I've ever not walked out of! I am going to have to warn my advisors in my department that they should beware. And if they count it towards my degree (which they said they would) I will be very grateful. Oh, the wankery, the bad writing, the back-patting!! I have pretty much nothing in common with the "Suck My Ass" dude except for the bad attitude.
