Funky Monkey

Great speach - but we can't even get the south to vote for a liberal from Boston. I fear they are stupid and/or hateful enough to not vote for a black president. I'd love to be surpised though.

Barak

He'll be only 4 years into a 6 year freshman term as a Senator. I don't think he'll run for the top of the ticket until '12, but he'll make a good potential VP pick in '08.

Jo

Ba-RAK! Ba-RAK!

Barak

Wow. That feels good!

Prentiss Riddle

The Dems will have an opportunity if they pick somebody good in '08. The Republicans will be handicapped either by fielding Dick "Heart Attack" Cheney or, if he bows out, by starting from scratch with an open primary.

Iris

How come Americans like Hillary Clinton? Inexplicable.

Jo

She's dreamy! She has a capacious ass.

Prentiss Riddle

Americans love royalty. That's why we keep reinventing family dynasties out of thin air. Bush Sr. was a rich and powerful guy but nowhere near rich and powerful enough to impose his kid on the Republican party, let alone the whole country; it was our collectively projected fantasy (and Karl Rove's evil genius) which made it happen.

A similar process on the Democratic side wants to turn Hillary into Bill's warrior queen consort. I suppose she's a sharp politician in her own right with some moderately good ideas, but if her fans had an ounce of sense they'd realize (1) exploiting family connections for political gain is a nasty undemocratic practice which should be discouraged, and (2) there'd be no more effective way to fire up the Republican base than to nominate Hillary. A gay illegal-immigrant abortionist would have as good a chance of winning the White House as Hillary would.

Steph

Obama was the only ray of light in the orgy of misery and despair that was watching the election coverage. Let's hope that a few years in Washington won't turn him into a prematurely aged, despairing cynic. I would support him over Hilary in a heartbeat. In fact I'd marry him, if he weren't married already :(.

Jo

polygaMY! polygaMY!
