Tonight's proust reading group celebratory dinner was incredibly fantastic. I could go on about the fanciness and the bazilliion-course meal and the satisfyingly snooteriffic way that someone always piped up to explain about what wine was now coming and why it was delicious and perfect and where it was from and why it went with that particular course. I never know anything about wine, well, I did briefly in 1997 for about two months after having read a book and some issues of the wine spectator but then I forgot it all since I don't drink very much anyway. So it was nice to be around people who know. And the wine was awesome.
We had place cards and little menus and everything was lovely. I like just being in K. and M.'s house with all their neat antique stuff and their many, many, many books all over the place.
But beyond the fancy amazing food... the fun and nerdy and bookish people! I had especial fun talking with R.H. next to me and she told me about a cool sounding utopian feminist sf book series whcih i wrote down in my notebook but i'm too lazy to get up and find it... P.L. on my other side had read many obscure things and was fairly interesting about them though as he got drunker I had to bully him in order to get a word in edgewise. I had a great time talking with him! And by massive coincidence he had worked at the Geo Library at U.T. 10 years after I did but with all the same people who we mutually admire. It boggles my mind that I worked there 18 years ago. I am old!
