Moveon.org No Escalation in Iraq
At least I signed these but I will also call the CA senators and my representative.
It doesn't feel like much, but at least it's something.
Rook's young cousin JD was in the Air Force and I think now is in some kind of reserve. Sadly... his mom, who has some serious chronic health problems, tried to kill herself recently and is still in the hospital. JD just got called up for combat duty today. I haven't seen him since he was 14 or 15. I'm thinking of him and his family this afternoon as I write letters to politicians.
Do you think it's worth something to write those letters and make those phone calls even to politicians (Like Barbara Boxer) who you know already agree? I argue strongly that we should all be doing it regularly. They need to hear from us in order to be able to prove that they are representing a large percent of the population, and in order for some larger "them" to measure response to specific actions. So in response to Bush's outrageous announcement that the war will be further escalated, and the recent movement of more ships and arms to the Gulf, we have to do *something* that can be seen and measured. There was a rally (one of the Moveon ones) a block from my house on El Camino last night.
I have a horrible feeling this country's government is about to attack Iran.
Bush... who says that this escalation of war will succeed "because it has to" is a raving maniac.
I know signing petitions seems like nothing against the force of this maniac and this country's military might - but at least it is more than the absolute nothing of doing nothing at all... So go sign a few and call your representatives. At least let your tiny data point be registered as the dust speck that it is.
Then go do some political blogging so that your dust speck yops a little bit louder.

Way to go, Badgerbag! I'm with you. Signing a petition, standing on a corner, etc. may not be much, but those things are a lot more than nothing.
