After many moments sitting in awkward silence or smalltalk mode with some kid's metrosexual dad, finally we had a fascinating conversation about 80s new wave music. I sighed over Heaven 17 and he told me to immediately DL things by Vicious Pink and Blancmange. (Seemed surprised that I could spell "blancmange"... hahaha...)
And he is so right, I dig them!
AcquisitionX is my new favorite thing.
Another party dad was nicely on my wavelength, when I was at the end of the balloons obstacle course and commented that kids would pretty much do anything as a party activity. "Now we're going to play FACTORY"... I snarked. He picked up on it and was like, "Hey, kids! Great new party game, we call it COAL MINE!" and we cracked up. Meanwhile, earnest kids with serious faces serpentined in and out of balloon-anchored strings with spoonfuls of tiny animals... Saving Endangered Species in something that no one noticed wasn't really a race. V. cool game, all in the imagination.
Isn't it odd, the magic click that happens in company when you can finally have an enjoyable conversation, after several awkward starts and failures?
