hotel program for evacuees, extended!
Wow - this makes me feel all warm and fuzzy towards the Red Cross again, and maybe even to FEMA a little, because supposedly FEMA is paying much of the cost...
Evacuees can stay in hotels indefinitely and the hotels don't
have to attempt to track down how much time evacuess may have
already racked up elsewhere:
http://www.corplodging.com/arc/ Hotel rooms: The Red Cross is paying for hotel rooms for evacuees (room charges only, no incidental expenses). The program was extended as of 10/2 to pay for room charges for evacuees indefinitely. No paperwork except an ID is required. Instructions for hotels are available at http://www.corplodging.com/files/hotel_reminder.doc Evacuees need to provide evidence of their pre-disaster address, which must be in a ZIP code in a declared disaster area.

IT SEEMS IT WOULD BE CHEAPER FOR RED CROSS TO PAY FOR APARTMENTS AND HOUSES RATEHR THAN PAY FOR HOTEL ROOMS. ALSO YOU HAVE SOME PEOPLE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE HOTELS. VICTIMS THAT ALREADY RECIEVED HOUSING ARE STILL TRYING TO HOLD ONTO THERE HOTEL ROOMS. YOUNG PEOPLE ARE COMING AND GETTING ROOMS SAYING THERE WITH THERE PARENT BUT THEY ARE NOT. SOME VICTIMS ARE NOT MAKING AN EFFORT TO FIND A PLACE OR EVEN A JOB.

Well, some people always try to take advantage of any system... On the other hand, so many people really needed housing and just couldn't get it... and still can't or are on waiting lists for Section 8 housing...
