more hideous details of abu ghraib and um qasr.
and more from german tv
and more links here at Daily Kos and again here.
What to do? I've had it with people drivelling on about respecting soldiers. yo, signing up and wearing a uniform doesn't qualify anyone for respect. These people were as evil as evil can be. There is no excuse for the u.s. military. they train them to do this stuff.
and watch out reading the daily kos comments. You know, I also very much hate people who are like, "Oh, well, if it was useful to do it..." There is no excuse for torture, okay? None. I don't care if they're children or adults, innocent or guilty. No torture!
Bush needs to go down in history as a war criminal. Our country will be haunted by trials for 50 years to come over this war.

I am not with you here.Obviously no civilised person can accept random torture for no specific reason but what if you have someone refusing to speak and their information will stop many people dying? After reading the smug, hateful words of the man who killed Van G0gh in Amsterdam I couldn't care less if the London police applied a few mild electr0des to the terror deta1nies in England.

In the words of Alice Reasoner... I mean Alice Hastings Bradley Sheldon Tiptree, Jr., CIA intelligence technician and psychologist extraordinaire:
"They strike me as wholly inappropriate to Intelligence, much as if one should attempt to pick pockets with the eyeballs."

At the risk of stating the obvious, there are both "hard" reasons and "soft" reasons to absolutely ban torture. The basic "hard" reason is that torture is wrong. The two main "soft" reasons are that it's a bad way of getting accurate information during an interrogation, and that it puts our own soldiers at risk by undermining the Geneva Conventions.
