Did you know they used Caslon to typeset the declaration of independence? It is one of the good humanist fonts along with Baskerville and Garamond for that matter for readability.

No I totally don't know! My ex girlfriend Mish did teach me what "sans serif" meant 15 years ago. But I need to read up about fonts and how to design books. I should have done that before making this book and also should figure out how to use Quark properly. I will show you the book KT and maybe you will give me feedback on design.

Of course by "give me feedback" I mean "teach me how to do it better while also reassuring me that I'm a fucking genius and by some miracle didn't make any awful mistakes"

LOL

Stop Stealing Sheep is a pretty well-regarded intro to typography (at least, IIRC a bunch of other books that I've read mention it); I notice that there's a bit of disagreement among the commenters on amazon as to whether it's really aimed at beginners, which makes me think that it might be aimed about right for you given your disdain for dumbed-down material. I haven't read it myself, because I gave up trying to bring any kind of design or accessibility standards to our website...

It would be my pleasure to provide constructive criticism for your genius. I know how difficult that can be :-)

Jo

Misread that last as "constructive criticism for your gonads." Yes, I need to wear my glasses when I read... Though I suppose your gonads might be trying to better themselves, in which case, a true friend would be honest.

Bwah ha ha. BTW, I should mention that I've never typeset anything in my life really, just watched over the shoulders of the art directors and copy editors at the magazine, and the only reason I know about the caslon thing is that I wrote about the fonts included in Mac OS X. And the last time I dealt with Quark was 1998.

Sunset Academy of Music

My uncle's music school in San Francisco, Sunset Academy of Music. He's a really great guitar teacher for adults or kids, a good listener with a sense of humor and intuitive understanding of teaching.
